Sculpey over Wire and Foil

Students used a thin layer of original white Sculpey synthetic “clay” over an armature of wire and aluminum foil to create a variety of sculpture pieces.

When planning their sculptures, it was suggested that they think of the wire as the “bones,” the foil as the “muscle,” and the Sculpey as the “skin.” Whenever possible, they kept the “skin” to no thicker than 1/4″. If necessary, they could use small pieces of masking tape to hold the wire and foil in place, given that Sculpey bakes at only 275 degrees. After the pieces were baked, they were painted with acrylic paint.
