Many art projects involve the use of recycled materials. Students collected and used discarded plastic water bottles to create these fun figure sculptures. These examples were created by middle school students, but this project is appropriate for high school students, too.
Some sand was poured into the bottles to give them a little weight. When the bottles were about half full, a paper towel was pushed into the bottle to keep the sand in.
Hands and heads were made of Sculpey.
The neck extended into the opening of the bottle, and triangular pieces of cardstock were used to form the shoulders and chest.
Scrap entrance cable electrical wire was used to form arms, and the heads and hands were painted with acrylic.
The characters were brought to life with the addition of
fabric, yarn and various accessories!
