A few of my students made life-size sculptures of themselves using clear packing tape as a casting material.
Applying the first layer of tape sticky side UP, three or more layers of tape were applied with the sticky side DOWN. They helped each other cast themselves in sections, and they used scissors to carefully remove each cast. Seams were taped up, and the body section casts were assembled and taped together.
Wrapping their heads was the trickiest part of the casting process, and they used a few layers of clear plastic wrap (obviously not placed over the nose!) before adding tape.
We photographed the finished sculptures standing, but they were not really strong enough to be self-supporting. In retrospect, it would have been better to display them “floating” from the ceiling by suspending them with clear fishing line.
