They had the opportunity to see a variety of quilt patterns, and they learned many of the pattern names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"432\" height=\"376\" src=\"https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ColonialArts-Quilting1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1843\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ColonialArts-Quilting1.jpg 432w, https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ColonialArts-Quilting1-300x261.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 432px) 100vw, 432px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They designed their own geometric patterns for a quilted pillow top, chose fabrics to use (even choosing some wild combinations!), and were assisted in cutting out their quilt pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"504\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ColonialArts-Quilting2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1844\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ColonialArts-Quilting2.jpg 504w, https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ColonialArts-Quilting2-300x188.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 504px) 100vw, 504px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After their pieces were cut out, they placed them right sides together, measured a 1\/4&#8243; seam, and began sewing them together (using a back stitch), according to the pattern they designed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"432\" height=\"314\" src=\"https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/SL-Quilt1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1846\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/SL-Quilt1.jpg 432w, https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/SL-Quilt1-300x218.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 432px) 100vw, 432px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once all the pieces were sewn together for the top, students chose a fabric to use for the back of the pillow. They again measured  a 1\/4&#8243; from the edge and sewed the two pieces together, right sides facing.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"360\" height=\"367\" src=\"https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/CL-Quilt1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1845\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/CL-Quilt1.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/CL-Quilt1-294x300.jpg 294w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They left a small opening at one edge so that they could turn the pillow right side out, and once they had done that they stuffed the pillow with Polyfil.
