A picture was taken of each student and it was abstracted in Photoshop using the cut-out filter. This filter breaks the image down into specific values and students chose the number of values that gave them the look they desired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After printing their pictures, students mixed black and white acrylic paint to create similar values on pieces of paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"576\" height=\"461\" src=\"https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1166\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image.png 576w, https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-300x240.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>They placed a transparency over their picture (which was backed with cardboard to keep it rigid), tore each value-toned paper into small pieces and glued the pieces directly onto the transparency. They applied a coat of Mod-Podge over their finished portraits to secure any loose pieces of paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"254\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-1.png 254w, https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-1-212x300.png 212w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 254px) 100vw, 254px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"248\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-2.png 248w, https:\/\/www.art-rageous.net\/Art-Rageous3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-2-207x300.png 207w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 248px) 100vw, 248px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To extend this project&#8211;or to make it more challenging&#8211;have students draw their abstracted portraits on a sheet of paper.
