Students marveled at the beautiful mosaics they saw in pictures and magazines. Some looked almost like paintings! With these images as their starting point, student created mosaics from small bits of paper. Some students chose to make designs, and others chose to make pictures.


When students noticed that a poster in the artroom--an interpretation of Van Gogh's "Irises" by Robert Silvers--was composed of thousands of tiny squares, this led to a discussion about photomosaics.
