Self-Portrait Figure Drawings

Art 2 students grid and enlarge a photograph of themselves to produce a self-portrait figure drawing in pencil. In addition to proper proportion, emphasis is on creating a good likeness and achieving effective contrast.

This project is a natural progression for returning Art 2 students, as they complete gridded self portraits during their Art 1 year. New Art 2 students first study the techniques of contemporary artist, Chuck Close, before starting on their drawings. (New students also have the option of doing a "traditional" self portrait.)
