Charcoal Compositions

Art 2

Students arranged objects of their choice to draw in charcoal. Emphasis was on correct shape, size and proportion, as well as on effective--and often intense--contrast. Many students found it helpful to set up their arrangements in a relatively dark part of the art studio and use a clamp lamp to create strong areas of light and shadow. Many took photos of their arrangements to use as reference.

During the 2008-2009 year, a few students asked to do landscapes or other types of charcoal drawings. All agreed that it's a challenging medium to work in, but their results were quite good!
